Abstract
Background & Objective : The role of nutritional support team (NST) is very important for general hospitals with high percentages of hospitalized patients suffering from malnutrition. Although there are several contents for the systematic development of NST, this study is predominantly performed to assess the degree of residents¡¯ consciousness on NST activities.

Methods : In order to investigate the consciousness of residents, the four aspects of awareness, knowledge, behavior, and satisfaction were being assessed with written questionnaires. Primary survey questionnaires were being distributed to 125 residents from different majors. After the primary survey promotional activities on NST and nutrition supports were conducted to only 28 residents majoring in internal medicine (IM), and the secondary survey was being performed. This research was performed by comparing the results of the primary and secondary surveys by the IM residents.

Results : In the primary survey, 48.5% of doctors responded that inpatient¡¯s nutrition was very necessary, and 41.9% of doctors responded that they acquired the relative information for nutritional supports from the senior doctors. In addition, 57.6% of residents responded that they were not utilizing the NST because they had no information on NST activities. In the secondary survey, the awareness rate was 95.2% which had risen by 2.4%. And in case of knowledge, 76.1% of IM residents responded that they only knew the basics of nutritional support and felt the need to understand more details in the future. In the case of behavior, the ratio for those who considered parenteral nutrition (PN) first was reduced and the ratio who consider the simultaneous administration of enteral nutrition (EN) and PN increased. Satisfaction rate for the NST reply was 25.0%, and 17.8% respondents wish for improvements. Satisfaction rate for NST promotional activities, demonstrated 90.4% of positive feedback.

Conclusions : The result of this research seemed to be an important basis for the improvements of NST in the medical setting.
